City of North Port, Florida Capital Budget Increased By 33%

We recently processed the latest capital spending plan by City of North Port, Florida. Here are our observations. 

In the CIP for the 2025-2029 fiscal years, North Port outlined plans to allocate $199 million for capital projects, marking a 33% increase from the $150 million allocated in the 2024-2028 CIP. This year's CIP includes 157 items, up from 137 in the previous plan. The table below provides a breakdown of the City of North Port's capital budget spending by business area for the last two CIPs.

Police Department and Road & Drainage Budget Increase

Capital budget allocations for the Road & Drainage category have increased by 80%, primarily due to additional funding for each project. Meanwhile, the Police Department's budget saw a 134% increase, driven by the inclusion of a new project, the VMware Storage Server, with $550,000 in funding.

Two Major Programs Over $20 Million Budgeted for City of North Port 

The City of North Port, Florida, includes two major line items valued at $20 million in its CIP. The largest allocation is the $24 million designated for the Road Rehabilitation Program under the Road & Drainage category, which covers annual resurfacing, surface rejuvenation, micro-surfacing, crack sealing, and striping of public roads. The other key line item includes the Neighborhood Water/Wastewater Line Extensions, valued at $20 million, under the Water & Sewer Utilities category. This project aims to extend water and wastewater services to residents throughout the city in a methodical, cost-effective manner, maximizing efficiency while minimizing costs.
