Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, Planned Capital Spending Increased by 52%

We recently processed the latest capital spending plan by the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Texas. Here are our observations. 

In the CIP covering the 2024 fiscal year, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport detailed plans to spend nearly $1.9 billion on capital projects, an increase of 52% from $1.2 billion in its 2023-2027 CIP. The current CIP has 64 line items, compared to 88 line items in the prior CIP. The table below breaks down the Airport’s planned capital spending by business area for its last two CIPs.

Substantial Increase In Joint Capital Category

Planned spending in the Joint Capital category increased by 63% due to a new project added, the construction of the Terminal F - Phase 1, worth $197 million. The ongoing SW End Around Taxiway and Runway 17R Reconstruction also increased by nearly $100 million and $77 million, respectively. 

Nearly $200 Million Planned for the Construction of Airport Terminal 

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport has three notable line items valued at over $100 million, all belonging to the Joint Capital category. The largest line item is the Terminal F - Phase 1, worth $197 million which includes the terminal concourse, an underground baggage transfer system, utilities, new aircraft parking positions, operational hardstands and an expanded busing facility in Terminal D to accommodate international hardstands. Terminal F Phase 1 is expected to open in Fiscal Year 2027. In addition, $114 million is planned for the SW End Around Taxiway. Lastly, $105 million goes to the reconstruction of the Airport's primary departure runway, 17R, and its associated hold pads.
