In the CIP covering the 2025-2029 fiscal years, Chesterfield County detailed plans to spend $1.5 billion on capital projects, a decrease of 9% from $1.7 billion in its 2024-2028 CIP. The current CIP has 63 line items, compared to 47 line items in the prior CIP. The table below breaks down Chesterfield’s planned capital spending by business area for its last two CIPs.

Transportation and School Budgets Decreases; Utilities-Wastewater Funding Rises
Many business areas saw a decrease. The most significant reduction was in the Transportation category, which decreased by 44% or $157 million due to the completion of four projects. The Chesterfield County Public Schools also experienced a decrease of $100 million for the same reason. Despite these decreases, the Utilities - Wastewater category increased by 45%, with funding allocated for the rehabilitation and improvement of the treatment processes at the County’s two wastewater treatment facilities: Proctors Creek and Falling Creek.
Chesterfield County's Major Projects: $150M CVTA and Multiple School Upgrades
Chesterfield County has two notable line items valued at over $100 million and four at over $30 million. The most significant line item is the Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA), valued at $150 million, under the Transportation category. Other notable line items belong to the Chesterfield County Public Schools and are listed below:

- New West Area High School - worth $77 million
- Grange Hall ES Replacement - worth $44 million
- New Old Hundred Area Elementary School - worth $44 million
- New Dale Area Elementary School - worth $42 million
