In the CIP covering the 2024-2028 fiscal years, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, detailed plans to spend $1.5 billion on capital projects, an increase of 14% from $1.3 billion in its 2023-2027 CIP. Most Significant Increase in Highways and Bridges; Decrease in Transit
In the 2024-2028 CIP, many of the business areas decreased. The most significant decrease can be attributed to the Transit category due to projects completed and nearing completion. In addition, various bus and vehicle replacement programs were transferred to the Others category. The Facilities Management business area also saw a significant decrease due to the construction of the New Criminal Courthouse facility, which was transferred to the new Courthouse Complex category. On the other hand, the Highways and Bridges business areas ++increased with funding towards 28 new projects, focusing on the reconstruction of highways and bridge rehabilitations.
Courthouse Complex Project To Receive Over $400 Million of Investment
Out of 478 line items, Milwaukee County has one notable line item valued at over $100 million and three at over $25 million. The largest line item belongs to the Courthouse Complex, the construction of the New County Criminal Courthouse, worth $488 million. Other projects include:
- Kosciuszko Community Center Rehabilitation - worth $43 million, under the Parks category.
- New Tropics Building - worth $42 million, under the Others category.
- Mke South Airfield Rehabilitation (Rw 1L) And Reconfigure South Airfield Taxiways Work - worth $26 million, under the Airport category.
